Background: To assess the clinical value of a wrist-worn device (Watch PAT100) to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea of geriatric patients in hospital.
Methods: The sleep parameters (RDI, AHI, sleep efficiency, and total sleep time), PSQI, and ESS were collected from 21 geriatric obstructive sleep apnea patients (mean age 58 years, 17 men, 4 women).
Sleep studies were done with Watch PAT100 under physician¡¯s ssistance in well controlled hospital room. Analysis for sleep efficiency and total sleep time were carried out. Then correlations between sleep parameter and sleep questionnaire were analyzed.
Results: Mean sleep efficiency was 82.9% (72¡96), and mean total sleep time was 433.6 minutes(376¡472). PSQI correlated significantly with RDI (R=0.53, P=0.047), and ESS correlated significantly with AHI (R=0.606, P=0.024). No patients complained discomfort during sleep study and no patients were disturbed by equipment.
Conslusion: Hospital-based Watch PAT100 test can be easy and useful option in diagnosis of geriatric obstructive sleep apnea patients.
